The Surf and Yoga team aims to keep things a bit different. From their fine surroundings at the guesthouse and the surf points nearby, all their certified surf coaches and guides, and the equipment that they use, they aim to have the highest regional standard. Everything on the surf coaching courses is designed to make sure that you get the most out of your surfing during your stay. The surf programs are comprehensive in that they not only include plenty of time in the surf but also video analysis, feedback, and surf theory classes.

Each surfing session is progressive and goal-oriented for each of the participants and at the end of the surf session, your coach will be discussing with you how you progressed learning that new skill taught.

The team is careful not to mix ability levels. Therefore, there will be a four-to-one student-instructor ratio at all times. This will also mean that you will never have to wait for others to keep up or feel left behind looking at the good surfers.

Daily schedule

Day 1

After arriving at the property, you will be greeted and welcomed by friendliest staff with a traditional welcome drink. Check-in to the luxury accommodation with some tips about in-house facilities and about the town. Meet camp managers and getting organized on your surf week schedule. Enjoy your dinner at the camp with an unwind atmosphere where you also meet the fellow surfers who will be joining you in the surf camp for the next week or two.

Day 2

Wake up before dawn to the sound of the Indian ocean and get ready for your first day in the Arugam bay surfing experience. Have a cup of coffee or tea, some bananas, and pack your bag with the help of our coaches for what to carry on your bag (don’t forget to bring sunscreen). Head to the beach early in the morning for your first session with their Srilankan-style surfing transport. All the in-water lessons are 2 hours and for your first 15 minutes, the isa- ils certified coaches will explain the basic theory, skills, and all other surfing needs. After the beautiful morning session, you will be back at the property for breakfast and a surf-yoga session. Along with all these surfing–yoga activities enjoy the best possible environment with mini adventures to improve your surfing skills whilst having lots of fun. Dinner starts from 7 p.m till you need it.

Day 3

On your second surfing day, you're not only going to teach how to surf, but you're also going to have fun sharing waves while giving you the tools to become a great surfer. After your salt and sandy morning, head back to the resort and enjoy your breakfast. Sit back and relax or enjoy a good conversation along with your surfing crews before we meet at the video analysis. You will be filming every in-water lesson to show you how you have been surfing exactly and what you need to do to improve on your next sessions. At the end of the day, you can go up to the rooftop for sunset and have your dinner before bed.

Day 4

After two-morning in-water surfing sessions on this day, you will go for morning surf-yoga and then breakfast. After breakfast you can grab a book from the library and walk to Arugam bay beach, exploring the town and the culture before the sunset surfing session at a beautiful spot where you can also enjoy a bit of wildlife. After sunset surfing you can have your dinner at the camp before a peaceful night.

Day 5

In each lesson, you will learn a particular skill, but even more important you will know why you are learning it. On this day as usual morning tea or coffee and to the beach for an in-water surfing lesson. After your breakfast at the camp, Paddyway Resort provides practical lessons with theory and video analysis on the big screens in their classroom. They also explain and cover all the aspects of surfing including wave forecasts, surfboard design, surfing ethics, and safety. After the video analysis session, you can relax and chill before the sunset rooftop yoga session to get yourself calm down.

Day 6

It’s the end of surf week. So, on this day you will have two in-water surfing lessons to make sure you apply and practice what you have learned and experienced throughout the week. You have an early morning session and a sunset session. Spend the rest of the day at the camp or at the beach and enjoy the last dinner with your friends at the beach around a bonfire and BBQ.

Day 15: Departure day

Today is the last day of your surf camp in Arugam Bay, and you don’t have any surfing sessions planned for the day. However, if you don’t have to leave until the afternoon, you can grab a surfboard from our camp and go for a final surfing session in Arugam Bay on your own. Usually, the checkout is at noon. However, you are welcome to hang out in the camp as long as you want.

Their beautiful luxury surf camp is located in the middle of Arugambay. It's a tiny resort-type accommodation with a swimming pool and on-site restaurant. The camp has nine rooms which include family, triple, and double apartments. all the rooms are fully equipped and air-conditioned. They also have a yoga shala at the property and another common area as well.

Landscaping has been done nicely and the team has maintained the garden. Kids-friendly accommodation.

"Very happy!"
Paddyways Resort opened this season so it was still fairly new when I was there. I really enjoyed my week and can highly recommend this package. The accommodation is beautiful and lacks nothing. The food was very very good and the people all very nice. The surf lessons with Firdows were great, I learned a lot. The yoga lessons with Maja were also good. :-) The sea or the main road can be reached in less than 5 minutes by foot.

"Wunderbares entspanntes Yoga Retreat mit lecker Prosecco"
Der Name war Programm, Petra ist eine sehr angenehme Yogalehrerin und geht auch auf die Individuellen Bedürfnisse der Gruppe ein. Eva mit ihren Kochkünsten muss ein Geschenk des Himmels sein. Und auf individuelle Ernährungsstile wird eingegangen. Eva und Petra sind super Hosts und auch die Gruppe war sehr angenehm. Das Haus hat wirklich Charakter und ist schön eingerichtet, je nach Wetter konnten wir draussen oder im grossen Yogaraum Yoga machen.

Was wäre eine Kritik ohne einen Negtivpunkt: einzig die Strasse neben dem Haus kann etwas laut sein, sodass man in der Nacht die Autos hört und so das (sehr gut isolierende) Fenster schliessen muss.

"Erholsame Ferien im Yogaretreat in Italy"
Wir wurden von Petra bereits am Bahnhof sehr herzlich empfangen. Bei der Ankunft in der wunderschönen Villa wurden wir mit einem der besten "Rüeblikuchen" verwöhnt und bekamen ein Prosecco als Welcome-Drink. Die gesamte Atmosphäre im Yogaretreat war sehr entspannt und relaxt. Nebst dem sehr angenehmen Yoga, genossen wir am Abend und Morgen das sehr fein zubereitete Essen von Eva und konnten jeweils am Abend eins bis zwei Prosecco aus der Region geniessen. Nachmittags haben wir jeweils etws unternommen. An alle, die nebst dem Yoga auch noch das italienische Flair geniessen möchten, kann ich diesen Retreat bestens empfehlen. Petra und Eva sind extrem gastfreundliche und liebevolle Menschen.

"Unglaubliche Villa, unglaubliches Essen"
Das Essen war der Wahnsinn, und der Yogaunterricht hat total Spaß gemacht. Morgens war eher sportlicheres und anstrengenderes Yoga, mit vielen interessanten Flows und Zeit, herausfordernde Posen zu üben (zb die Krähe). Ich freue mich schon aufs nächste Jahr!
