"Sadly not as expected "
The local area and setting is lovely. Not far forma river to walk. Mr Percy is very friendly as are the Sri Lankan Nationals who work there.

Did not get what was booked: booked a Buddhist retreat which includes a chat with a Buddhist monk - nothing mentioned until I did. He wasn’t available- so offered a zoom call at a much later stage after home. Didn’t feel this was good enough. No cookery lesson offered for those on the Ayuvedic retreat despite them asking. Treatments were too expensive and poorly executed. A few complained at also having to pay fees on top. Internet was shocking. I know we shouldn’t be on it but it is a necessity at times. Food: they make a big deal of this being Ayurvedic but it is full of carbs stodge. Bunged a few of us up - been to Sri Lanka - stayed in Ayurvedic spa - food nothing like that. No vegetables to speak of. No Doshas taken into consideration- everyone got the same. Feeding on the cheap. The windows and doors are taped to prevent drafts but then you can’t open them - left stale smells upstairs. Several people witnessed the bedding not being changed between guests - it was lightly steamed rather than changed - we were appalled! Asked to buy products advertised on the internet - they were happy enough to sell to me for 5 times the price! When I showed them the advertised price they said the product was no longer available. Everything felt like it was being done on the bare minimum- even the ‚activities‘ we poorly planned and put together. Would not recommend this place given the cost. Yoga all yin based - basic and slow- not for advanced!

"Tranquility"
The location of Plantation Villa is idyllic, deep in the Herefordshire countryside by the River Wye and it truly felt a retreat from the outside world. The day is well structured according to Ayurvedic principles and participants can do as much or as little as they want throughout the weekend. The yoga sessions were excellent, and I found them pretty challenging, but there are always options to go easy. I think most people would get what they want from them. In addition, there are talks, gong baths, breathwork sessions, chanting and meditation throughout the day and evening. I enjoyed the Ayurveda element to the whole retreat and learnt a lot. It's made me think more about diet, body and mind health in a more holistic way. The treatment I had was a full body massage by Valerie, which was excellent. The meals were vegan, plain but tasty; again, balanced according to Ayurvedic principles. I went with my daughter and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was almost with regret on Sunday that we put our ordinary clothes on and returned to the outside world. It felt like a magical place and definitely did us good.

Nothing was disappointing, but a few things could be improved. 1. The staff were very nice, but never around unless there was a specific session or purpose. I would have liked more interaction with them to talk about the place and how it worked. They were behind closed doors for much of the weekend. 2. The Herefordshire countryside is so lovely, I think the retreat could have made more of it eg. a mindful guided walk or similar. We had the option of going for walks by ourselves but there was no guidance about where, or footpath signage. 3. One of the talks was very desultory and it seemed that the guy, although a nice person, had really not prepared what he was going to say. He spoke off the cuff and didn't make it worthwhile. His yoga session the same evening was similar and it didn't feel like he had prepared. Given that we are all paying clients, I think we deserved better.

"Amazing place, but PLEASE READ INFORMATION BEFORE BOOKING!!"
Though initially I was sceptical about the place as I felt it was a lot money, I choose Plantation villa as this was more accessible than retreats in Spain or Portugal. I was pleasantly surprised to know that this is an ayurvedic retreat and not just a yoga retreat. For someone who believes that health is the outcome of what you feed into your mind and body, this was perfect. Mica, the yoga instructor is lovely and her guided meditation with positive affirmations were a great start and end to the day. Dr. Ruwanka is up from 7 am for chanting, he cooks 3 healthy meals, explains the relevance of each and the point of including or excluding certain things in you diet. The consultation (additional charges) I was unsure of, but is tailored to your needs and your person! Staff are up until 10 pm discussing concepts of ayurveda. The yoga instructor is lovely, which makes a huge difference. The review about yoga being "too basic" obviously comes from somebody who believes yoga is about headstands and handstands! Yoga here is tailored to needs and abilities and focusses on the basic concept of yoga which is mindfulness and breathing along with movement. Piyal, the gentleman who does the massage is amazing at his job! Over 10 years of experience in ayurvedic massage. 2 cats and a dog are a lovely addition! I have returned to normal life well-rested and rejuvenated. Thank you

Staff are working very long days. Yes, with breaks in between but that still means they are committed to work long. I was sharing my room and the person left 2 nights before me, They left their bed messy (which was appalling!!), but the bed was not made until I left. But the staff are working so hard, I didn't really mind messy bed next to mine!
