Requirements

Yoga practice

The more comfortable you are as a yoga practitioner, the more you will be able to focus on the teaching and transformational aspects of your training. To take most out of the training they recommend a foundation in fundamental yoga postures.

The course manual book and lessons will be provided in English.

Attendance

To ensure the success of the training, participants are required to attend all the classes and lectures.

The course

Based on thousands of hours of experience from all over the world, YogaUnionBali and One Soul carefully created and shaped the course to deliver the most educational, life-changing experience. The training is designed to challenge and develop individuals at all levels. The comprehensive training includes modules focusing on flexibility, technique, and strength, which are essential to condition your body and learn how to confidently teach the handstand.

They focus on:

  • Deeply enrich your practice and understanding of the art on hands with the 50-hour handstand teacher training.
  • Build a strong foundation for yoga, handstand fundamentals.
  • Explore flexibility, technique, and strength modules to condition your body and master the art of teaching the handstand.
  • Engaging in enriching afternoon workshops that encompass diverse yoga styles such as Yin, Restorative yoga, and Hatha.
  • Exploring the methodology, theory, philosophy, and anatom/physiology of yoga.
  • Equipping yourself with the knowledge and skills to become an outstanding yoga teacher.

The course in more details

Pranayama

Prana - breath, Yama - control - in accordance with the great yogis, breath equals to energy flow. Every morning will begin with pranayama classes, where you will have the chance to get grounded, look inwards and set intention and energy for the day ahead. You will practice your breath and gain conscious awareness of your body.

In this class you will learn and practice:

  • Yogic breathing
  • Nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breathing)
  • Bhramari (humming bee breath)
  • Ujjayi (the psychic or victorious breath)
  • Bhastrika (bellows breath)
  • Kapalbhati (frontal brain cleansing breath)

Asana analysis and adjustments

This class focuses on analysing and dissecting basic and advanced postures. You'll learn the correct alignment based on the traditional approach and in line with body mechanics, understand how to offer hands-on adjustments and how to structure them in a Vinyasa class. The teachers will always be present in your practice, observing and providing feedback.

In this class you will learn:

  • Analysis of the 80 postures and more (arm balances, back-bends, and inversions)
  • Modifications, other variations, and advanced variation of all postures
  • How to use yoga props in your yoga practice
  • Adjustment (physical and verbal) theory and hands-on practice

Philosophy

You will travel back in time to India and dive deep into the origins of yoga and how it reached today's modern form. Focusing on philosophical concepts, you will learn how to adapt and apply them to your modern lives. These lessons are held in a conversational format, which enables students to actively engage and explore meanings through their own vision and stories.

In this class you will learn and discuss:

  • History and meaning of yoga
  • The eight-limb path of yoga according to Patanjali
  • Prana, Vayus, Nadis, Chakras, Kundalini
  • The Gunas, Doshas, introduction to a yogic diet
  • Mudras, Bandhas (energy locks) and Mantras
  • The meaning of Om
  • Lifestyle and ethics as a yoga practitioner and a teacher

Anatomy

You will take a deep dive into the understanding of the human body in today's modern world, with a focus on the nervous, skeletal, and muscular system. You will gain a deep understanding of how these systems work in harmony to create movement and gain the ability to articulate this through your yoga practice, teaching and everyday life.

This class is delivered in a conversational setting. Over the years, they have been able to master the delivery of complex concepts in a fun, interactive, and intuitive way.

In this class you will learn and discuss:

  • Introduction to anatomy and different body systems
  • Analysis of the skeletal system and connective tissue, muscular system and the nervous system
  • Movement analysis of all major joints and muscles and direct application to yoga practice and asanas

Teaching methodology

They believe that you begin teaching from the moment you enter the shala. They aim for the lessons to be confidence- building and progressive. You'll start with one-to-one lessons and gradually moving to bigger groups of students, eventually, you delivering a 30 minutes class to your fellow yogis. Through regular feedback by teachers and fellow students, you will have a chance to improve as you go along and about finding your unique voice and style as a teacher.

In this class you will learn and practice:

  • YogaUnion Vinyasa structure and principles
  • Practice teaching and receiving feedback
  • Learn and practice hands-on adjustment
  • Instruction, teaching styles, and qualities of a teacher
  • Voice projection and floor presence
  • Planning and structuring a class
  • Dealing with injuries and safety precautions

Gymnastic conditions and drills

This segment of the program is dedicated to elevating your physical abilities by focusing on core strength and body awareness. Through carefully curated gymnastic conditions and drills, you will:

  • Cultivate core strength: Develop a strong and stable core, which is vital for overall stability and balance in yoga practice and daily life.
  • Hone body awareness: Enhance your awareness of body positioning and movement, enabling you to refine your postures, minimize the risk of injury, and deepen your practice.

These dynamic exercises are designed to empower you with greater physical prowess, contributing to a more well-rounded and confident yoga journey.

Handstand

This is the main part of the program. Dedicated to the art of mastering inversions, a key element in the world of yoga. Through the handstand training, you will:

  • Master inversions: Acquire the skills and techniques necessary to confidently and gracefully perform handstands. You'll not only achieve the physical accomplishment of inversions but also experience the mental and emotional empowerment that comes with defying gravity.
  • Improve balance and concentration: Handstand practice refines your balance, both physically and mentally. It demands intense focus, cultivating your concentration skills while promoting equilibrium and stability in your practice and everyday life.
  • By embracing the challenge of handstands, you'll unlock a whole new dimension of your yoga journey, where physical prowess meets mental fortitude.

What you can expect

  • Mornings: Pranayama, meditation, mantra chanting, and invigorating Vinyasa flow classes.
  • Late mornings: Asanas with a focus on alignment, adjustments, teaching methodology, and theoretical aspects.
  • Early afternoons: Alternating yoga philosophy and anatomy sessions for a comprehensive understanding.
  • Late afternoons: Restorative yoga, including Yin, Hatha, Nidra, and specialized workshops.
  • Gymnastic conditions and drills: Enhance core strength and body awareness.

You will stay and have your training in Kosta Maria, a beautiful hotel which is located in the picturesque area of a seaside village in Palairos. The accommodation is only 21 kilometres away from the Aktion Airport and a few minutes distance from cafes, restaurants, yacht clubs and tourist attractions. The rooms feature an air conditioner, Wi-Fi, a small kitchen, fridge, garden, and a terrace.

Eleni and Spyros are exceptional teachers. Location was so peaceful and beautiful. Accommodation was great and hotel staff so accommodating and kind. Food was 10/10. Still dreaming of the cabbage soup.

Unfortunately, I did not get any value from Tina's classes on pranayama and philosophy. I found her very unclear in her thinking / expression, classes effectively resembling a stream of consciousness rather than a structured teaching block. Tina's approach to the students' questions was rather dismissive, leaving questions unanswered. I was really excited to learn about the philosophy but sadly walked away with no information.

"A life changing experience"
The instructors were amazing, the shala beautiful and the support given by the team was remarkable. So much time and effort put into making this a beautiful experience. I am so grateful to the instructors and everyone working behind the scenes to make this happen. My skills and knowledge have improved so much in just a few weeks, and I feel so empowered and ready to continue the journey. Would do it all over again in a heartbeat, and am already planning on doing my 300hrs with YogaUnion next year I would like to give a huge shout out to Angela who assisted with our training, providing support and guidance on so many levels. All of the instructors are fantastic and each has taught me so much - I loved having the opportunity to learn from different perspectives and styles, and being able to incorporate these into my own practice and teaching style I have made so many lovely friends from all across the world being here; thank you so much

The only things that were a little disappointing: - food - a lot of people didn’t end up using the catering meal plans, as you don’t get much choice. As a celiac and vegan I was assured there would be options for me in the catered package but didn’t fully trust that staff understood my need for gluten free food that had been separately prepared. Luckily there are some great GF places in ubud (including dedicated GF restaurants) so this wasn’t too much of an issue, and I was refunded for the meals I didn’t have 😊 - the accommodation was quite basic and standards did vary quite a bit between the guest houses. For those with allergies it would’ve been nice to have options with kitchens to prepare our own food - I would say this is definitely NOT suitable for beginners! The course is intense and physically challenging, with minimum 90-120 minutes physical practice every day. So I would say more suitable for intermediate practitioners - but so so worth it!

I love everything about the whole experience from the location, to the teachers, the ladies that cook and look after everyone at the hotel and all the lovely people who also took the course.

I didn’t find anything I did not enjoy.
